You'll
find that Dr. Selby's #1 concern at The Lung Centre
is Best Patient Care.
Did you know that
people with obstructive sleep apnea who do not get
treatment are 7 times (700%) more likely to
suffer from a heart attack (myocardial infarction)
than those who do get treatment.
The Lung Centre is proud to provide
the first and only state-of-the-art sleep disorder testing
lab in Warrick County. Located at the TLC Newburgh office,
trained technicians monitor sleep patterns for a thorough
review and analysis by Dr. Selby and his staff. Our
sleep lab has that special "home away from home"
appeal, rather than a "sterile" hospital environment.
Dr. Selby has over 19 years of experience in diagnosing
and treating obstructive Sleep Apnea and interpreting
over 1,700 in-home sleep studies. The Lung Centre has
provided the longest and most comprehensive in-home
sleep lab in the tri-state. This provides the convenience
of a sleep study done in your own home, which at times
may be more accurate than an in-laboratory sleep study.
Many patients find they sleep better in their own home.
In-home sleep studies have been recognized by CMS as
an appropriate alternative testing method in select
patients. Dr. Selby has also supervised and interpreted
hundreds of overnight in-laboratory sleep studies, which
is also known as Polysomnography (PSG).
CPAP
- We take a special pride in the very careful choice
of appropriate CPAP equipment, masks, and durable
medical equipment companies appropriate for each patient.
We especially provide very customized and careful
follow-up for our CPAP patients both short and long
term.
Janet Burnett, BS, RRT, who
scores and supervises our home sleep studies, has
27 years of experience in respiratory therapy and
19 years experience in scoring over 2,700 home sleep
studies.
The importance of having this convenient testing in
the comfort of the patient's home should not be underestimated.
Don't put yourself
at risk on the road or at work needlessly. Up to
1/3 of all traffic fatalities are suspected due to
sleep deprivation. Visit The Lung Centre today
to get the treatment you need.
Proper diagnosis will enhance
appropriate treatment and quality of life. Our continuity
of care enables us to maintain a long-term relationship
with the patient, whether in the hospital or during
outpatient visits.
Asthma may be triggered by
exposure to various irritants such as: tobacco or
wood smoke, strong odors and sprays, pollens and outdoor
molds. The weather, exercise and infections may also
cause an asthma episode. We provide services for pediatric
through geriatric patients.
The Lung Centre is one of only two
practices in the area to offer this exclusive test.
The methacholine challenge test is one method of assessing
airway responsiveness. In this test, the patient inhales
an aerosol of one or more concentrations of methacholine.
Results of pulmonary function tests performed before
and after the inhalations are used to quantitate response.
The ability of this test to find hidden asthma will
provide a more rapid and accurate diagnosis for the
best treatment of this common ailment.
Dr. Selby has been a Certified
"B" Reader for over two decades and is the
only Pulmonologist in the area to hold and use this
certificate. Occupational Lung Disease includes Pneumoconiosis
from sources such as Asbestos and Silica. We evaluate
and treat patients with Coal Workers Pneumoconiosis
(Black Lung). Other areas of interest include chemical
inhalation injuries, reactive airways disease, and
occupational asthma.
The Lung Centre diagnoses
and develops treatments for COPD (Chronic Obstructive
Pulmonary Disease). COPD is composed of Emphysema,
Chronic Bronchitis, and Asthma in various blends.
COPD is the 4th leading cause of death in Americans.
Only with proper diagnosis can proper management lead
to best outcomes.
Lung Cancer is the leading
cause of cancer death in the United States. Our philosophy
is to take an aggressive stance toward the diagnosis
of lung cancer as early as possible for best outcomes.
For example, Dr. Selby carefully reviews chest x-rays
and CAT scans himself, and along with the patient's
clinical presentation, will often provide early diagnostic
procedures. This can include needle biopsies, thoracenteses,
as well as the thousands of bronchoscopies he has
performed over the years.
It is imperative that the patient sense compassion
and continuity of care, which is provided by the initial
diagnosis through the final treatment. It is our observation
that patients prefer a familar face both in and out
of the hospital throughout this entire process.
Other conditions The Lung Centre focuses on include:
- Cough
- Pleurisy
- Chest Pain
- Shortness of Breath
- Critical Care
- Pediatric Pulmonary Conditions including: Cough,
Asthma, Sleep Apnea, and other Abnormalities
- Pulmonary Enigmas.
